Early on in my drumming career I had to do a paper for school and I decided to research the drum brush. The research never really told me who was the first drummer to actually use a brush on a set of drums. Also, there are very few early recordings with drummers that used them.

The original drum brush was invented for killing fly's. In my own mind I created this little drum brush history.

One day a drummer was doing a gig around a meat factory. In the factory they had these fly swatters laying around. The drummer was getting so crazy trying to kill the fly's he was handed this fly killer. After a few poorly timed swats, he hit the drum! That must have been a real "Light Bulb" moment for this drummer and the birth of the drum brush was started!
